BOCUE (bo-Q) was founded in 2003 by Theresa Buffo (a practicing graphic designer at the time) as a handmade handbag and accessory line with strong creative spirit. The company's focus then and now is on producing well-crafted items - from the fit on the body, to the weight of the materials, to the closures and stitching. Elegant yet practical design is evident in the fresh silhouettes, vibrant color and texture combinations, and durable fabrication - no hardware or excessive detailing. Collections are produced in limited editions to preserve this artisanal craftsmanship while keeping new ideas flowing and evolving. Accessories designer Theresa Buffo favors a range of global influences - mixing comfort with modern originality. An American with French and Italian heritage, Buffo studied painting at The Colorado College and in Florence, Italy, before moving to Chicago to study industrial and graphic design. Prior to starting bocUe, Buffo designed highly functional adventure travel gear, working with craftspeople in Katmandu, Nepal. Her passport is filled with experiences that motivate her work. "A well-crafted handbag is a dynamic object a woman uses everyday" says Buffo. "I want women to feel distinctive when carrying my bags - good design and color is elemental in making this happen. I integrate the sculptural nature of leather into every product we make." |
Our designs are consistently flavored by bold ethnic palettes, art deco motifs and mid-20th century art and furniture. Shapes are hand drawn and cut on paper before being sculpted in leather. We use leather because of its lovely earth tones and natural ability to withstand the test of time. We buy small quantities of specialty leathers to keep our color palette diverse on limited edition styles. A new feature, exterior pockets are placed strategically for ultimate ease and appeal as a delicate detail. We are also increasingly intrigued by soft leathers that drape off the hand or shoulder.
The original bocUe collection was based on the lyrical curves of the classical guitar. Clean, round shapes are the signature of the bocUe brand - combining craftsmanship and comfort in every personalized piece.
